If your project(s) committed to the 2 points for “any project utilizing heat pump technology for domestic water heating” in the 2019 Maryland QAP, you won’t want to miss this event!  This technical design forum will focus on the needs and challenges of multifamily applications.

Developers, property managers, architects, MEPs, builders, and plumbers are all encouraged to attend.  This forum will cater specifically to design professionals and will strive to bust every myth and overcome every obstacle to finalizing the water heating strategy for all multifamily projects that have committed to using heat pump water heaters (HPWH) in this 2019 funding round.

We will begin with an overview of the technology, followed by Q&A.  After that, we will break the room into three small groups for mini-sessions with each of the major manufacturers of this technology.  AO Smith/State, Bradford White, and Rheem will each have technical representatives present to share the nuances of their products and answer all of the questions you can throw at them!

Schedule

9-9:30am  Breakfast and networking

9:30-10:30am  Overview of heat pump technology

10:30-11:55am  Vendor breakout sessions

12:00 - 1pm  Lunch and networking

The overview presentation will aim to answer the following questions:

  • How does this technology work?
  • What are the basics of a proper installation in a multifamily setting?
  • What are the different installation strategies in a multifamily building?
  • How are they sized
  • Do they have to be ducted?
  • How loud are they?
  • How long do they last?
  • What are their serviceability considerations?
  • What are the expected energy savings over typical natural gas or electric water heaters?
  • How do they affect HERS Index Scores and other energy requirements?

Please submit any burning questions in advance so that the presenters can answer them for you and other attendees in detail during the forum.
